Santa Cruz United FC is pleased to offer development-level training programs designed to bridge the gap between recreational soccer and competitive club play — giving young players the structure, coaching and environment to grow and prepare for the next step.

Pathway to Competitive Soccer Program
Spring Development Pathway Program (Birth Years 2019-2016)
Target Audience:
Players born between 2019 and 2016 who are passionate about improving their soccer skills and competing, but may not yet be ready for full competitive team placement in Spring 2026, or where roster spots are full.
Program Details:

Two training sessions per week, led by the club’s licensed coaches

Focus on technical skill development, decision-making, and game understanding

An opportunity to train within the club environment, alongside competitive players

Designed as a stepping-stone into team tryouts and competitive soccer for future seasons

Start Date: Mid-February (or when confirmed) through end of Spring session

Players may still be evaluated for competitive teams during this period, based on readiness

1. What is the Spring Development Pathway Program?
The Spring Development Pathway Program is designed for players born between 2019–2016 who want to improve their skills in a professional club environment while preparing to transition from recreational to competitive soccer.
It bridges the gap between recreational play and full competitive teams by offering professional coaching, structured training sessions, and age-appropriate game experiences.

No. While the program supports players who aim to move into competitive soccer, it’s also ideal for those who simply want to develop their skills and confidence in a fun, supportive setting — without committing to a full competitive schedule.

3. Can my child participate if they are already playing recreational soccer?
Yes. Players can continue to play in their recreational program as long as the schedules align.
Many families choose to do both — using this program to complement their recreational experience with additional technical training.

4. Will my child automatically be placed on a competitive team after the program?
Participation in the program does not guarantee placement on a competitive team.
However, it gives players valuable exposure to club coaches, builds foundational skills, and helps them prepare for future team evaluations and tryouts.

5. What is the time commitment for this program?
The Spring Development Pathway includes two training sessions per week, schedule TBD. Exact times will be confirmed after registration and may vary slightly by age group.

6. When does the program start and end?
The program will launch in mid-February 2026 and continue through late April 2026, followed by competitive team tryouts in May for players ready to advance.

7. Who are the coaches?
All sessions are led by professional, licensed Santa Cruz United coaches, with additional support from assistant staff and player-mentors.
Coaches follow the club’s development curriculum, ensuring a consistent and positive learning environment.

Players should bring:

9. Where are practices and games held?
Sessions will be held at Santa Cruz United facilities and partner fields.
Final locations will be announced prior to the start of the program.

10. How much does the program cost?
The Program will cost $325 per player with the following payment plan - $125 due on registration, and then two monthly payments of $100 per month, payable on March 1, and April 1 2026.

12. What happens after the spring season?
This program is designed to prepare players for Santa Cruz United competitive team tryouts in May 2026 for entry into the 2026/27 season.
Players will continue building their technical foundation, game understanding, and confidence throughout the spring to ensure they are fully prepared for the next step in their development journey.
